Ghost Duelists are a special type of character unique to the Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship DS games. A Ghost Duelist is a copy of a Player character that is generated after Dueling another player, or a downloadable character offered by KONAMI. That copy or DLC Duelist can then be played against (or alongside via Tag-Team Duel) in World Championship mode, controlled by the AI.
Ghosts retain the Deck (Ground Deck only in the 5D's games) they last connected with and the rating they last had. Some games give significantly higher DP upon defeating high-rated Ghosts, so it was not uncommon to download the highest-rated Ghosts for grinding purposes, especially if they had hacked stats and intentionally easy Decks. On the flipside, strong Decks, especially those that hacked their Main Deck to have only the Exodia parts, were popular for breezing through Tag Duel modes that allowed Ghost partners.
Players are unable to use Ghost Duelists in Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's World Championship 2011: Over the Nexus's Story Mode (but can in World Championship Mode), most likely because certain sidequests would be too easy if appropriate characters could be downloaded.
A World Championship 2011 game could hold up to 63 Ghosts from any source, but due to this game's unique take on storage, this maximum assumes that no Friend Information, Forbidden Lists, Duel Puzzles, Deck Recipes or Replays are downloaded or made. (One Ghost averages 3 blocks; the game can hold up to 190 blocks of data. Additional Ghosts will not save unless space is made prior to the Duel). Prior to 2011, Deck names woud not appear on a Ghost unless they were official or generated from local wireless Duels. 2ff7e9595c
